Pitta is one of the three energies known as "dosha" in Ayurveda and is composed of the fire and water elements. Each of us carry and express this energy in differently. Summertime could make it more prevalent as we all become vulnerable to Pitta dosha imbalances with the long hot days. Naturally that fire within you also becomes more intense during this season.
There's a natural law we can observe that like attracts like and there's no exclusions for people with dominant Pitta in their constitution. They're more likely love hot weather, spicy food and competitive exercises. This is where the Pitta dosha becomes excessive which can lead to physical and emotional challenges like inflammation, irritability, anger, sleeplessness, and difficulty digesting foods.
So how do you synchronize with nature as well as maintain balance of your doshas during this time of year?
An Ayurvedic lifestyle helps to promote balance and can be simple such as waking up and eating around the same time everyday.
Start by noticing where you might be able to make small, incremental changes in your day-to-day life. Consider how you can create an environment of balance and harmony in your activities and your diet. For example, look at how your diet can provide cooling and replenishing properties. Incorporate cooling foods like cucumbers, coconut and lime to reduce inflammation.
Follow the morning guidelines below to help you get back on track. Start with doing 1 or 2 of the rituals below then try more as they become second nature. You'll soon notice a difference in your day and over all health!
Supporting your healing journey at a sustainable pace is key. Notice how these small shifts are supporting you and whether or not some of the current habits may be costing you.
Make it a habit to listen to your body and be aware of how your choices are impacting you so that you can make appropriate adjustments.
Some of my pitta clients have struggled with migraines more frequently in the summer and they personally love the scalp massage. I add marma therapy with warm oils that have bhringaraj because of it's cooling nature.
Additionally, scalp massage is known for its soothing effects on the nervous system. The gentle manipulation of the scalp can help reduce stress, tension, and anxiety, promoting a sense of relaxation and well-being. when receiving this treatment, not only are you getting the full body relaxation effect of a scalp massage but it's also promoting healthier hair growth that works to prevent premature graying.
I love that Ayurvedic healing has so much focus on prevention, which truly makes is the science of longevity.
